Parent Teacher Organization By-Laws

Article I: Name
This organization shall be called, "North Hi Mount Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (North Hi Mount P.T.O.)
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this PTO is to enhance and support the educational experience at North Hi Mount by developing a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parent involvement.Article III: Policies
Section I: This organization shall be a non-profit organization. The use of funds, dues and proceeds derived by this organization shall be for the benefit and improvement of the school.Section II: This organization shall be a non-partisan and non-political. No part of the net earnings of this organization shall inure to the benefit of or be distributable to its members, trustees or officers. This organization shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered.
Section III: The organization shall not seek to direct the administrative activities of the school or to control it's policies.
Article IV: Membership and Dues
Section I: Any person with children currently attending or is in the community surrounding North Hi Mount Elementary School, who is interested in the purposes for which this organization is established and is willing to uphold its polices, may become a member.
Section II: Each member of this organization shall pay annual dues, the amount of which shall be determined by this organization at the annual meeting.
Article V: Officers and Elections
Section I: the first year (2010-2011) of this organization shall run as a council. The following calendar school year (2011-2012) shall consist of officers including a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, who are members and are in good standing of this organization.
a. These offices shall be held for one (1) year. Elections shall take place each Spring prior to the close of the academic school year. The officers shall assume their duties immediately following the academic school year. An officer shall be restricted to two (2) consecutive year terms in the office served.
Section II: After completion of the academic school year, an Executive Committee will be elected by the current officers.
Article VI: Meetings
Section I: This organization shall meet regularly. The dates of the meeting shall be flexible to adjust to the school calendar.
Article VII: Amendments
Section I: These by-laws may be amended at any regular meeting of this organization by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present and voting provided that notice of the amendment has been given at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting, at which the amendment is voted upon. The amendments shall become effective immediately, upon approval.
Article VIII: Rules of Order
Section I: The rules contain, "Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised," which shall govern this organization in all cases in which they are applicable and in which they are consistent with these by-laws.
