North Hi Mount Elementary is located in the city's Cultural District and is a designated as an Historic and Cultural Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission. It was constructed in 1934-35 as part of a Works Progress Administration project designed by Wyatt C. Hedrick and is one of the few schools in the FWISD with its original multiple light windows still in place. North Hi Mount also features a stone terrace and retaining walls designed by Hare and Hare, a landscape architecture firm from Kansas City, Missouri in 1935. Additions to the rear of the building have been complimentary to the original design. The first students attended North Hi Mount for the the 1935-1936 school year.
